Fixturing tables are used in many industries to help provide stability and precision, particularly when machining or welding components. Metrology fixturing tables offer a similar function, except these tables help technicians and engineers accurately measure, inspect, or modify tooling fixtures or manufactured components. The purpose is still the same (providing stability and ensuring precision), but the application is different.
The primary application of metrology fixturing tables is to assist with inspection-related tasks, including:
Metrology tables are generally classified by the material they’re constructed from, which can include steel, aluminum, and advanced composite materials.
Steel tables are heavy-duty and extremely durable, which makes them great for industrial settings where they need to be able to handle heavier loads or perform large-scale measurements.
Aluminum is a preferred material due to its lightweight nature. Despite being lightweight, aluminum is still strong and less prone to rust than steel, which makes it ideal for cleanrooms or environments where mobility and corrosion resistance are needed.
Composite metrology tables have high strength, low weight, and excellent thermal stability. Because of these characteristics, composite materials are commonly found in highly controlled environments, like electronic laboratories, where minimal thermal expansion and high dimensional stability are needed.
In addition to material, metrology tables can be classified as “adjustable height,” “vibration isolation,” or “modular.”
Adjustable height, as you can guess, means that the table has a mechanism that allows its height to be adjusted. Vibration isolation tables have damping systems or other technologies in them to protect equipment or workpieces from vibrations. Lastly, modular tables have a customizable layout that can be adapted to meet various measurement needs and are ideal for dynamic environments that need quick reconfiguration when inspecting different types of parts.
Rayco Fixture is an industry-leading manufacturer of metrology fixture tables. Our fixture tables include foot-operated floor locks for enhanced security, bottom shelves for storage, custom sizing, and engraved X-axis and Y-axis numbers and letters. The width and length of the table are customizable, as well as the width, amount, and thread size of the holes within the table. We can even design a custom modular plate. Please note that our standard tables do not include mounting holes. We are happy to add mounting holes to your fixture table at no additional cost.
